POlishable
overlay
Our Concrete Polishable Overlay System is a thin layer of cementitious material applied to an existing substrate to enhance its appearance & durability. It can be mechanically polished to achieve a desired sheen, strength & exposure; making it a popular choice for revitalizing old or worn concrete floors. The polishable overlay typically consists of a blend of cement, aggregates, polymers & additives which are combined together to create your desired concrete characteristics. This system is a great alternative to the design set backs & limitations of traditional mechanical polishing, as the variables of concrete colour & exposure levels are much easier to control, while still maintaining the exceptional strength & durability of the mechanical polish.
OVERLAY BENEFITS
-
The overlay is typically installed at a thickness ranging from 3/8” to 1/2”. This layer is carefully installed over the existing substrate allowing for a seamless transformation without adding substantial weight or thickness.
-
The primary distinguishing feature when compared to traditional overlayment is the ability to mechanically polish the surface. The polishing process involves mechanically grinding/honing/polishing the overlay to reveal the desired sheen and aggregate exposure.
-
Polishable concrete overlays offer a wide range of decorative options clients can choose from. The customization includes colour of both aggregate and concrete, exposure and sheen levels, and lastly patterns and textures.
-
Despite its thin application, the overlay enhances the strength and durability of the existing substrate. It forms a protective layer that is resistant to abrasions and stains, ensuring a long lasting robust flooring solution.
-
Compared to some traditional flooring options, the installation of our overlays are relatively quick and efficient. After the primer is installed to the substrate, the overlay is installed in one day and the polishing phase can begin in as little as 24 hours.
-
Once polished, the overlay becomes inherently low maintenance. Its smooth finish leaves the floor highly resistant to abrasions and stains, making it easy to clean with minimal effort. Depending on the use, it’s recommend the floor be re-sealed after a duration of time.
